FESTIVAL GENERAL INFO
YOUTH POLICY
Children ages 12 and under must have a parent or guardian aged 18 or older present in order to attend the festival. Youth one-day passes will not be sold to anyone 12 years of age or younger without a parent or guardian aged 18 or older.
PARENTS / GUARDIANS OF TEENS
Life can happen fast when you are a teenager, and Festivals can provide an excellent space to accommodate the growth that accompanies the transition from a child to a young adult. We encourage parents and guardians of teenagers attending a Festival event to speak, and be open, with them about wise decision making surrounding their health & safety in large event settings. Over the years, parents and guardians have found numerous ways to both provide their teen with greater autonomy while maintaining supervision (including timed check-ins, 2-way radios, etc.) and staying in communication while enjoying each other’s space. Many parents have also found that volunteering with their teen can be an excellent way to experience the event together.
PARKING
Parking for the festival is in 3 locations:
- Miami Marine Stadium
- North Point Park (Arthur Lamb Jr. Road)
- Historic Virginia Key Beach Park (for VIP, ADA and Artist Parking)
All vehicles entering any of these parking lots must pay the event’s entry fee – a separate fee from the Festival’s tickets. This is further elaborated on in the departmental section of this document.
TRASH, RECYCLING & COMPOST
Please help us reduce our waste by following this simple request:
- If you bring it with you, take it home! If you must leave trash or recycling, please sort glass, aluminum, plastic, cardboard & trash. We have a great clean-up crew working the event, but let’s do our part to have the festival be as sustainable as possible. Historic Virginia Key Beach Park is a valuable property to us all. We have a duty and responsibility to protect it and the life around it.
PETS
As much as we love pets, out of consideration for the health and safety of all, pets are not allowed at the festival. Service pets will be permitted with proof that they are for the service of the human that they are with. Please check service animals in at the Ticket Booth upon arrival.
REFUNDS
We apologize for any inconvenience, but we are unable to provide refunds. All ticket sales are final.
ALCOHOL
Outside alcohol is not allowed at the festival. Alcoholic beverages are available at multiple bars throughout the property, and only those aged 21 years or older with valid identification are allowed to consume. Public intoxication and drug abuse are not acceptable, and we reserve the right to intervene if we believe anyone is acting inappropriate and/or disrespectful.
DRONE POLICY
Drone cameras are not permitted without official accreditation. Anyone hoping to pilot a drone during any event held at Virginia Key Beach Park will need to
1) be 16 years of age or older and hold a valid Driver’s License;
2) hold a valid FAA UAV License, and 3) provide proof of insurance with both the festival and Virginia Key Beach Park listed as additional insured for $1,000,000 per occurrence ($2,000,000 aggregate).
All persons must be pre-registered and have all of the above documentation on file with the Festival office before launching UAVs on the property. Pilots flying a drone on the property without all of these requirements will either be asked to leave or have their equipment confiscated until the end of the event. A repeat offense will result in the person subject to being banned from the property.
A FEW TIPS FROM US TO STAY HEALTHY & SAFE
*Unplug! Cell phone coverage is spotty – at best. You will have better luck sending a text. Take the picture or video and worry about posting it later. If you must make a call, the best places for coverage seem to be in the Food Village or in the parking area.
*Use sunscreen
*Use bug spray
*Upon arrival, note the location of Security and First Aid on the Festival Site Map.
*Stay hydrated! There are numerous Water spigots for public consumption marked throughout the site.
*Use the buddy system, stay together and keep an eye out for one another.
*If you witness something that feels unsafe please report it to security.
*Use & trust your best instincts.
*Please spread the word about the 911 Good Samaritan Law. The “911 Good Samaritan” law provides protections from charge and prosecution for drug and alcohol possession and underage drinking for both the victim and those who seek help during an overdose.
Bottom line, if someone needs medical assistance, do not hesitate to seek help immediately.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
The event shall be presented in accordance with applicable public health conditions as of the date of the event and which may change at any time as determined by federal, state or local government agencies or instrumentalities, artists or the promoter; such requirements may include, without limitation, changes to capacity, attendance procedures and entry requirements, such as proof of vaccination and/or negative COVID-19 test, and other protective measures such as requiring attendees to wear face coverings. If any ticket holder does not comply with any laws, mandates, health orders or directives, promoter or event terms, conditions or rules, then the promoter or event operator may refuse admission to the event or require the ticket holder to leave the venue and such ticket holder will not be entitled to a refund.
In the event of an emergency, information may be relayed on the video screens, over the audio system, and/or through mobile notifications via the festival app.
If you need medical assistance, please locate the nearest medical tent or alert a staff member.
If you see something, say something. Flag down any staff member or public safety official if you notice something that doesn’t seem quite right.
COVID-19 WARNING
COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. There is an inherent and elevated risk of exposure to COVID-19 in any public place or place where people are present and there is no guarantee, express or implied, that those attending the COVID-19 is a new coronavirus that has spread throughout the world. It is thought to spread mainly from person to person, mainly through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Spread is more likely when people are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet). It may be possible that you can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching your mouth, nose, or possibly your eyes.
If you need to evacuate, it is important to observe the COVID-19 Preventive Measures in the Evacuation Center:
- Bring your mask (face covering) and keep it on at all times. Anyone over 2 years old should use a cloth face covering while at the evacuation center
- Remember to wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
- Bring your hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes to disinfect frequently touched items within your assigned space at the evacuation center
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
- Keep a 6-foot distance between yourself and persons that are not part of your immediate family, remember the cloth face mask is not a substitute for social-distancing
- Place used tissues in the trash
ATTENDEE PROMISE & HEALTH ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
All attendees agree to follow festival policies (including health and safety policies) and posted instructions while at the festival. According to the CDC, older adults and people of all ages with serious underlying medical conditions may be at higher risk of death or severe illness from COVID-19. All attendees should evaluate their risk in determining whether to attend the festival. By entering the festival, attendees voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and confirm that they will adhere to local quarantine mandates and the CDC quarantine requirements.
ASSUMPTION OF RISK: YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE
There are inherent risks associated with being at any Festival or at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park. By participating in the Festival in any way (ticket purchaser, volunteer, staff, performer, vendor, etc.) you are fully responsible for your physical and mental self, your belongings, your vehicle, your actions, injuries, accidents, illness, property damage, or other occurrence arising in any manner whatsoever out of your participation in activities sponsored by the Festival. In addition, all persons attending this event, by their presence, may be photographed, videotaped, or broadcasted, and waive any claim related to the use of their image for the festival’s promotional purposes. We live by the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you so please be respectful, kind & responsible, and enjoy your time at Virginia Key!
HANDICAP ACCESSIBILITY
Though situated on a flat, beach type property, Historic Virginia Key Beach Park is fairly navigable by those with disabilities. Please find some helpful information here, below and reach out to info@sumfestmizik.com with any further questions.
- A packed gravel road connects all of the event venue. As a beachfront property, there are tree roots around and some areas of sand. This main thoroughfare, though, provides good access to any of the music, and goes very close to our food area as well as all of the handicap-accessible camping and parking areas.
- Mobility Impaired Parking is available on a first-come first-serve basis and divided into Van Accessible spaces and regular width spaces at The Historic Virginia Key Beach Park parking lot. Please see the parking volunteers for directions and access. A valid state-issued DMV ADA placard or HD plate is required.
- Transportation to the Venue: The primary mode of reaching the festival, located on Virginia Key, is by vehicle. There are two main GA parking options: Miami Marine Stadium, North Point Park, with shuttle service provided from the two lots. The Historic Virginia Key Beach Park parking lot will be used for VIP, ADA Parking and Artists parking only. An alternative is using Uber, with a dedicated pick-up/drop-off location at the Miami Marine Stadium and North Point Parking Lot. Public transport options include bus service number 26 running between Virginia Key and Key Biscayne, but note its limited hours.
TRANSPORTATION
Bus service number 26 runs from Virginia Key up to Key Biscayne but the service will have its last run at 11 PM and the first one at 5:25 in the morning. This could be a good option when it comes to reaching the venue. Walking from Brickell to the venue is possible but takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes.
- The festival has a dedicated Rideshare drop-off location at the entrance of the Historic Virginia Key Beach Park and at Miami Marine Stadium and the North Point Park parking lot. Again, this could be a good option while reaching the venue but for the egress will be a bit slower. We will share in our marketing leading up to the festival, “Be prepared to wait some time while coming back to Miami because of the number of people that will likely be trying to call an Uber or taxi”. Traffic will be almost certain on the bridge linking Virginia Key to Brickell.
- Safety and Security Tips: The City of Miami Police have issued advisories for visitors to be vigilant of their personal belongings due to a spike in cellphone thefts. Recommendations include keeping cellphones in front pockets or a fanny pack rather than in back pockets.
